The Anaesthesiology Department provides comprehensive anesthesia and perioperative care for surgical and diagnostic procedures. The department focuses on patient safety, pain management, and individualized anesthesia planning using modern techniques. Services are delivered through a multidisciplinary approach in close coordination with surgical specialties.
History
The Department of Anesthesiology and Reanimation was established on June 2, 1980 by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Erol İÇEL. Since our hospital was located in Kepez and consisted of a structure taken over from the Ministry of Health, there was no anesthesia device available in these years; therefore, general anesthesia procedures could not be performed. In 1981, the first application of general anesthesia was performed by Prof. Dr. Tuncer Karpuzoğlu on Prof. Dr. Çetin Büyükberber during a minor surgery.
Facility & Services
The department operates with a total of 30 fully equipped operating rooms located in Block A, Block B, and the Day Surgery Center, providing anesthesia services to approximately 45,000 patients annually. The Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) includes 10 beds across two blocks, ensuring safe and effective post-operative care. Facilities are supported by central gas and waste systems, modern anesthesia machines, and advanced monitoring technologies. The department is capable of performing all general and regional anesthesia techniques, peripheral nerve blocks, sedation, and comprehensive invasive and non-invasive monitoring.
