The Pediatric Surgery Department provides comprehensive surgical care for newborns, infants, children, and adolescents. The department manages congenital anomalies, pediatric tumors, trauma, and complex surgical conditions using modern and minimally invasive techniques. Care is delivered through a multidisciplinary approach with a strong focus on safety and long-term outcomes.
History
The foundation of our department was laid in 1988 with the appointment of Assistant Professor Dr. Mustafa MELİKOĞLU as a Pediatric Surgery Specialist within the Department of General Surgery. In 1990, the Department of Pediatric Surgery was officially established, and the first residency students began their training in 1991. Lecturer Dr. Güngör KARAGÜZEL joined the department in 1994, Specialist Dr. Adnan ASLAN in 1997, Assistant Professor Dr. Cem BONEVAL in 1998, and Professor Dr. Abdurrahman KARAMAN in 2013. Following the retirement of Professor Dr. Mustafa MELİKOĞLU and Dr. Lecturer Cem BONEVAL in 2022, our department continues its work with two faculty members as of 2025.
Facility & Services
The Division of Pediatric Urology was established within our department in 2002 and continues to provide services. To date, 15 specialist doctors have been trained in our department, and 8 research assistants are currently continuing their work. Our department's educational program includes both undergraduate education for 4th-year medical students and postgraduate training for residency students.
